Gucci has begun selling two sneaker designs labelled “Made in China,” an unusual departure from the Italian manufacturing identity attached to most of the luxury house’s footwear. Parent company Kering says specialized Chinese manufacturing was selected for technical reasons and that Italy remains central to Gucci’s production model.
