Speak and charge: Alexa now helps EV drivers find EVgo stations
EVgo Inc., a trailblazer in public fast-charging networks for electric vehicles (EVs), has rolled out an Alexa-enabled charging experience in collaboration with Amazon. The new feature allows drivers of Alexa-enabled vehicles, as well as users of automotive accessories like Echo Auto, to effortlessly locate and navigate to nearby EVgo charging stations. This innovative service was initially showcased at CES 2023 and represents a step forward in EVgo’s commitment to delivering superior customer experiences.
The Alexa-enabled charging experience leverages PlugShare, the world’s leading EV community and part of the EVgo family. With PlugShare’s vast database of public EV charging stations, Alexa can offer real-time information on the availability of charging points, charging speed, and plug type. Users can simply command, ‘Alexa, find EV charging stations near me’, to receive a list of nearby charging options. The technology is compatible with several Alexa-enabled EVs, such as the Nissan ARIYA, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and F-150 Lightning. “Voice-initiated, hands-free navigation enhances the customer experience and gives peace of mind to EV drivers on the move,” said Ivo Steklac, Chief Technology Officer at EVgo.
Anes Hodžić, Vice President of Amazon Smart Vehicles, commented, “Alexa offers a natural way for people to interact with their vehicles. This collaboration with EVgo is a prime example of how voice and multi-modal experiences can make life more convenient, and we are excited for customers to experience this.”
In another customer-centric move, EVgo has also teamed up with Audible, an Amazon subsidiary, to offer a two-month free trial of Audible Premium Plus to both EVgo customers and PlugShare users. With these back-to-back collaborations, EVgo continues to solidify its leadership in developing consumer-focused charging technologies and services.
