SOLEK advances 95.2MW Leyda photovoltaic power plant in Chile
SOLEK, under the leadership of Czech renewable energy pioneer Zdeněk Sobotka, embarks on its largest venture yet with the construction of the 95.2 MW Leyda photovoltaic plant. Spanning 120 hectares, equivalent to 150 football fields, and located 90 km from Santiago in San Antonio, Chile, the Leyda plant represents a significant leap towards achieving the country’s decarbonization goals. This initiative not only underscores Chile’s commitment to renewable energy but also positions SOLEK at the forefront of sustainable development in the renewable energy market.
The Leyda photovoltaic power plant stands as a testament to Chile’s progressive energy policies, aiming to significantly boost the nation’s sustainable energy capacity. The plant will generate 185 GWh of green energy annually, catering to the needs of approximately 23,000 households, and is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 71,000 tonnes each year. The generated electricity will play a crucial role in Chile’s ambitious goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, highlighting the country’s dedication to a sustainable and renewable future.
The project welcomed the support of a delegation led by the Czech Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Síkela, emphasizing the global interest and collaborative spirit in renewable energy advancements. Minister Síkela’s visit reinforced the Czech Republic’s support for SOLEK’s endeavors in Chile and showcased the mutual benefits of international cooperation in energy sector modernization.
The construction of the Leyda plant has been made possible through strategic partnerships and financing arrangements with notable institutions such as BNP Paribas, Natixis, and the BlackRock Debt Fund. A significant aspect of this project is the 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ENEL Generación Chile, ensuring a stable and long-term energy supply.
As SOLEK continues to explore new horizons in renewable energy, such as floating PV systems, agrovoltaics, and battery storage, the Leyda plant marks a significant milestone in their journey. With a robust portfolio of nearly 40 photovoltaic power plants in Chile and a growing global presence, SOLEK is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
