Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant : ACCIONA wraps up construction of SWRO facility

ACCIONA said that it has wrapped up the construction of the Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant of (SWPC) in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Spanish infrastructure company, the Shuqaiq 3 independent water project (IWP) seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination facility is operating at full capacity.

Middle East EPC Director for the Water Division said: “This milestone is the result of exceptional collaborative teamwork between the owner, the client, the owner’s engineer and the project team.”

The SWRO plant is said to be an important project in the modernization of the water sector that is presently being undertaken by Saudi Water Partnership Company.

ACCIONA has been responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant, which will yield 450,000 cubic meters of potable water per day.

The project also includes the EPC of a large electrical special facility (ESF) to feed the desalination plant with power and certain other additional installations from the nearby existing power plants.

The Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant is expected to meet the water requirements of two million inhabitants in the Asir and Jizan areas.

— PPP Director of ACCIONA Water Business said: “We have completed this project to schedule, in challenging circumstances, and to contribute to supplying drinking water in the country in a sustainable and innovative way”.
