Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project : Cheniere Energy initiates permitting process
Cheniere Energy Partners, a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy, has started permitting process for the Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
The proposed Sabine Pass LNG terminal expansion will be located adjacent to the existing Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project and will manufacture around 20 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year.
The Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project will include up to three large-scale liquefaction trains, each with a production capacity of approximately 6.5mtpa of LNG, a boil-off-gas re-liquefaction unit with an approximate production capacity of 0.75mtpa of LNG, and a couple of 220,000m3 LNG storage tanks.
The Sabine Pass LNG terminal expansion project will also build facilities for waste heat recovery and carbon capture from acid gas removal units.
Further, the project plans several developments to enhance its current capabilities, including optimized ship loading at the current marine facilities.
The Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project will receive feed gas through new and current pipelines currently supplying the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project.
Jack Fusco — Cheniere Energy Partners Chairman, President, and CEO said: “The SPL Expansion Project is being designed to leverage the infrastructure platform we’ve built at Sabine Pass to deliver economically advantaged incremental LNG capacity in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.”
The Houston-based Bechtel Energy has been contracted by Cheniere Partners to complete a Front-End Engineering and Design study of the Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project.
The development of the LNG expansion project and supporting infrastructure is subject to regulatory approvals and permits.
The Sabine Pass LNG terminal has six liquefaction trains with a total production capacity of approximately 30 million tonnes a year of liquefied natural gas. It also includes operational regasification plants, including five LNG storage tanks, vaporizers, and three marine berths.
