RWE Offshore Wind Japan Murakami-Tainai K.K., in a consortium with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui”) and Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (“Osaka Gas”), has been selected to develop a substantial 684-megawatt (MW) offshore wind project off the coast of Murakami and Tainai, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The Japanese Government has appointed the consortium in its latest offshore wind auction, aligning with the nation’s commitment to renewable energy and its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Project’s Contribution to Renewable Energy and Economic Growth

With the wind farm’s planned capacity of 684 MW, the project promises to significantly contribute to Japan’s renewable energy targets and environmental sustainability. Slated for full commissioning in June 2029, the project, comprising 38 wind turbines, will also support local job creation and strengthen both domestic and regional supply chains.
