Rheinmetall secures major contract for Fuchs 2 armoured vehicle components

Rheinmetall, a renowned player in the defense industry, has received a significant order from an international partner for supplying components of the Fuchs 2 wheeled armoured vehicle. This order, valued in the three-digit million-euro range, was finalized in December 2023 and involves producing the vehicle in the partner country, with deliveries spanning from 2024 to 2028.

This follow-up order encompasses not only production kits but also conversion kits and spare part packages for the Fuchs 2 vehicles. The deal highlights the increasing value addition and investments made in the production facility in the partner country, promising high-quality machining, welding, and surface treatment.

This agreement signifies a new phase in the long-standing strategic partnership between Rheinmetall and its international partner, potentially leading to the export of Fuchs 2 vehicles manufactured locally.

Rheinmetall Expands Global Footprint with Large-Scale Fuchs 2 Vehicle Production Deal

The Fuchs vehicle, a versatile 6×6 wheeled armoured vehicle, has been a staple in the Bundeswehr, Germany‘s federal defense forces, for nearly half a century. To date, around 1,800 Fuchs vehicles have been constructed, serving various roles from armoured personnel carriers to mobile command posts and field ambulances.

The Fuchs 2 represents an advanced version of the original Fuchs 1, boasting improvements like a larger interior, more powerful engine, updated chassis, enhanced protection, and a digital electrical system. The Bundeswehr itself utilizes around 940 Fuchs vehicles, including 272 of the 1A8 version, which offers superior mine and IED protection, along with improved ballistic resistance.

Rheinmetall’s latest contract to supply Fuchs 2 components is a strategic move that underscores its expertise in the defense sector and its ability to forge strong international partnerships.
