Porter Airlines launches exclusive non-stop service between Ottawa and St. John’s

Porter Airlines has officially initiated the only non-stop flight service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT), marking a significant expansion in its flight operations and enhancing connectivity between the two capital cities.

Premier Service on the Embraer E195-E2

The new daily service is operated using the state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which boasts a passenger capacity of 132. This aircraft features a comfortable two-by-two seat configuration, eliminating the middle seat dilemma and allowing passengers to choose freely between window and aisle seats. This enhancement in passenger comfort is part of Porter’s commitment to providing a superior travel experience.

In addition to comfort, Porter Airlines enhances the in-flight experience by offering free and fast WiFi across all E195-E2 flights, allowing passengers to stay connected throughout their journey. Complementary premium snacks along with free beer and wine served in glassware ensure a luxury experience even in economy class.

Expanding Ottawa’s Role as a Porter Hub

Ottawa serves as a strategic hub for Porter, linking over a dozen destinations across Canada and the United States, including major cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Orlando, Boston, and New York. By August, Porter plans to operate up to 35 daily flights from Ottawa, supported by a new $110 million aircraft maintenance base that sustains over 400 local jobs.

“St. John’s is an underserved market in Eastern Canada. Our passengers are asking for more new service and it’s exciting that Porter can provide another opportunity to enjoy our elevated economy experience between the nation’s capital and the east coast,” said Kevin Jackson, President of Porter Airlines. He highlighted the route’s role in complementing Porter’s expanding presence in Ottawa, projecting over two million passengers in 2024.

Enhancing Connectivity for St. John’s

For St. John’s, this service opens direct links to three Eastern Canada destinations: Ottawa, Halifax, and Toronto, and follows the recent inauguration of the Halifax – Deer Lake route. St. John’s, known for its rich history, modern attractions, and as a prime location for whale watching and other local experiences, gains an essential connection to Ottawa, facilitating both leisure and business travel.

Porter Airlines, whether directly to YOW or connecting through YOW to destinations beyond, is the perfect partner to enable these trips.”
