Port of Brownsville in Texas set to welcome $38.75bn LNG projects

The Port of Brownsville in is all set to be home to three new LNG projects with a combined investment of $38.75 billion following approvals from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) during its monthly commission meeting.

The three approved LNG projects in Port of Brownsville are the Rio Grande LNG Project, the Annova LNG Brownsville Project, and . The FERC has also approved the projects’ associated infrastructure.

The three LNG projects in Brownsville represent a total investment of $38.75 billion in Cameron County and the Rio Grande Valley. The projects are set to generate thousands of jobs which will result in considerable economic progress in the region, said Port of Brownsville.

– Chairman of the Brownsville Navigation District said: “Today’s announcement is another significant milestone in making these energy projects a reality and is the result of years of hard work by the applicants.

“We’d like to thank FERC for its effort and diligence in reviewing these proposals and thank our community for their support. These new energy projects reflect our long-term strategy and vision for the port to be a catalyst for economic growth in the Rio Grande Valley by encouraging domestic and international business investments and driving developments that create new good paying job opportunities for the region.”

According to Port of Brownsville, the next steps for the three LNG projects are final investment decisions (FID) to be taken by the applicants, which could be as early as Q1 2020. After the FIDs are taken and the LNG projects formally begin construction, the region will head towards new and diverse job opportunities, said Port of Brownsville.
