PM Modi unveils new Rs 2,400cr Terminal 3 at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport
In a significant development for aviation and infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the integrated Terminal 3 (T3) of the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) in Lucknow. The new terminal, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2,400 crore, is designed to handle both domestic and international flights, boasting a capacity to manage 4,000 passengers during peak hours. This marks a pivotal moment in the airport’s expansion, enhancing its capability to support the region’s growing travel demands.
Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd, outlined the ambitious vision for CCSIA, stating, “Our vision for CCSIA is big and far-reaching.” The master plan aims to scale the airport’s capacity to serve 38 million passengers annually by 2047-48, aligning with Uttar Pradesh’s aspiration to evolve into a one-trillion-dollar economy. The development is not just about infrastructure but is also set to create over 13,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, significantly contributing to the economic growth of the region.
T3 is an architectural marvel, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities to ensure a seamless and comfortable experience for travelers. The terminal features 72 check-in counters, including 17 for self-baggage drop, and 62 immigration counters to facilitate quick passenger transit. Furthermore, the expansion increases the number of passenger boarding gates and bridges, enhancing the airport’s operational efficiency.
The design of T3 encapsulates the rich cultural heritage of Uttar Pradesh, from the entry gates to the skylight, offering passengers an immersive audio-visual experience. The terminal’s aesthetics are adorned with motifs of traditional ‘Chikankari’ and ‘Mukaish’ embroidery, while graphics depicting stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata add to its charm.
T3’s development underscores a commitment to sustainability, featuring the use of recyclable materials and aiming to become a multi-modal travel hub with metro, electric bus, and app-based taxi services. The introduction of DigiYatra, common use self-service kiosks, automated tray retrieval systems, and advanced baggage screening machines signifies a leap towards modernizing travel with technology.
