Oracle has marked a significant milestone in the cloud computing sphere by opening a second Oracle Cloud Region in Chile, the first hyperscaler to have dual regions in the country. The new Oracle Cloud Valparaíso Region, combined with the existing Santiago region, bolsters Oracle’s commitment to enhancing business continuity and addressing data residency and sovereignty requirements in Chile.
Oracle’s Commitment to Chile’s Technological Development
Joaquin Ma-Shichoy, managing director of Oracle Chile, underscored the importance of this development, noting that the new Valparaíso region will empower customers with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, while ensuring best practices in business continuity and disaster recovery. Oracle’s initiative in Valparaíso reflects its dedication to advancing Chile’s technological landscape, particularly for industries that demand stringent in-country data residency.
Expanding Oracle’s Global Cloud Footprint
The Valparaíso public cloud region, Oracle’s 48th worldwide, offers a comprehensive suite of more than 100 OCI services and cloud applications. These include the Oracle Autonomous Database, MySQL HeatWave Database Service, Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, and AI infrastructure. Oracle’s expansion in Chile is part of a broader strategy in Latin America, with seven public cloud regions across Chile, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, surpassing other major hyperscalers in the region.
Karla Flores, director of Invest Chile, celebrated the opening as pivotal, not only for its economic impact but also for consolidating Chile as a digital hub in Latin America. Flores highlighted the regional benefits, including technological advancements and increased employment opportunities in Valparaíso.
Enhancing Cloud Services and Sustainability
The Oracle Cloud Valparaíso Region provides a resilient foundation for Chilean customers, offering a range of cloud services to modernize applications, innovate with data and analytics, and migrate diverse workloads. With the addition of a second region in Chile, customers gain access to low-latency networking and high-speed data transfer, enhancing redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities. This aligns with Chile’s regulations for data residency and sovereignty, enabling OCI to manage workloads across all industries.
Oracle has also committed to sustainable operations, matching all worldwide Oracle Cloud Regions with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, including in Valparaíso. Many regions, including Santiago, already utilize renewable energy, allowing organizations to operate more sustainably.
Distributed Cloud Offering Flexibility and Control
Oracle’s distributed cloud strategy provides customers with cloud advantages, greater control over operations, data residency, and proximity. Oracle manages 67 cloud regions across 26 countries, encompassing public, dedicated, and government cloud regions, and supports a range of multicloud and hybrid cloud options. This global presence ensures flexibility for organizations of any size, including those under strict EU sovereignty controls.
