Odense Marcipan to acquire cake manufacturer Frödinge from Orkla Foods Sverige

Danish marzipan producer Odense Marcipan, which is a part of Orkla Food Ingredients, will acquire cake manufacturer from Swedish food company , for an undisclosed price.

According to Orkla, the parent firm of the parties said that the acquisition is being executed to build a strong platform for future development of Frödinge, while focusing Orkla Foods Sverige’s activities on selected strategic growth areas.

Frödinge is said to be well known for its mud cakes, traditional cheesecakes, and other classic and novel dessert pies and cakes. In Odense Marcipan Group, the cake manufacturer will be a sister company of , which is claimed to be among the top players in the Danish cake market.

Johan Clarin – CEO of Orkla Food Ingredients said: “Frödinge is a fantastic addition to Foods Ingredients, and together with our other cake and bakery ingredient businesses, we are creating a solid platform for growth, cost-effective production and product development.”

Frödinge, which has been in business since 1929, came under the ownership of Orkla following the acquisition of Rieber & Søn in 2013. The deal includes the takeover of a factory with 75 employees in Vimmerby in Småland province, .

Odense Marcipan, which was founded in 1909, is known for its select marzipan and products that include fondant, chocolate and cake decorations, and nougat.  It supplies bakeries and confectioners, the out-of-home sector, and grocery retail market.

Odense Marcipan Group is also made up of Bæchs Conditori – a frozen cakes and desserts supplier, and Igos – a marmalade and fruit filling manufacturer.

Completion of the deal is anticipated to have effect from 1 October 2020.
