Nordex Group accelerates German wind farm expansion with 172MW orders

The Nordex Group has once again demonstrated strong performance in the German market with a recent order intake totaling approximately 172 megawatts (MW) for various customers. This development underscores the company’s growing influence in the renewable energy sector, particularly in wind power.

The most substantial of these new projects is located in Lower Saxony, where the Nordex Group will supply eleven N163/6.X turbines to a wind farm operator from Badbergen/Dinklage, in the districts of Osnabrück and Vechta. This contract includes a comprehensive Premium Service agreement spanning twenty years. The “Bünne-Wehdel” wind farm, boasting a capacity of 74.8 MW, is slated for completion in fall 2025.

Bünne-Wehdel represents a significant repowering effort, replacing 17 older 1.5 MW Südwind S70 turbines with newer, more efficient N163/6.X models. These new turbines each have a capacity of 6.8 MW and a hub height of 164 meters, promising a substantially higher annual yield. The Nordex Group, which initially installed the old turbines under its former brand “Südwind” 22 years ago, marks a return to this site with advanced technology.

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Central of the Nordex Group, expressed pride in the project: “The new 6.8 MW turbines are very efficient and offer a much higher annual yield than the old turbines. We are proud that we can make an important contribution to the energy transition with this repowering project, and especially that we can once again install turbines for the same operating group at this location after more than 20 years.”

The project’s planning involved collaboration among EFI Wind from Mülheim an der Ruhr, Alpha Wind from Osnabrück, and Energy-Farming based in Bad Essen. Energy-Farming will also handle the commercial and technical operations of the wind farm. This cooperation highlights the integrated approach needed to scale up renewable energy projects efficiently.

The Nordex Group has installed about 51 GW of wind power capacity across more than 40 markets globally and reported consolidated sales of around EUR 6.5 billion in 2023. With a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees and a manufacturing network spanning multiple countries, the Group continues to focus on onshore turbines in the 4 to 6 MW+ classes, catering to markets with space constraints and limited grid capacities.
