NLC India to build lignite to methanol project in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu

NLC India has proposed to build a lignite to methanol project with an investment of INR 4,400 crores at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu.

Expected to be commissioned in 2027, the lignite to methanol plant in Neyveli will have a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day (0.4 MTPA).

NLC India has requested the Indian Ministry of Coal for including the lignite to methanol project in the government’s proposed production linked incentive scheme, under which a financial incentive will be allocated for all the units of production sold.

The state-owned coal miner has engaged Engineers India Limited (EIL) as project management consultant (PMC) for what will be the first of its kind lignite to methanol plant in India.

NLC India stated: “EIL’s vast experience in Hydrocarbon sector coupled with NLCIL’s strong project implementation team and experience shall ensure that this landmark project is successfully turned into a reality within anticipated timeline.”
