NLC India signs power usage agreement with Telangana DISCOMs for 200MW solar project

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Coal and a pioneer in solar power generation, has signed a significant Power Usage Agreement with the Telangana State Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) for a 200 MW solar power project. This agreement, finalized in Hyderabad, is a major milestone in the company’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development.

Key Highlights of the Agreement

Under the agreement, NLCIL will deliver 200 MW of solar power at a competitive and affordable price through the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme. The project is slated for a 25-year duration, reflecting a long-term commitment to renewable energy.

The solar project, expected to commence operations by June 2025, will generate approximately 1,300 crore units of green power over its lifetime. This substantial generation capacity is set to offset around 90 lakh tons of carbon emissions, contributing significantly to the reduction of the state’s carbon footprint.

Project Details and Technological Advancements

NLCIL’s solar project will utilize state-of-the-art technology, including single-axis trackers and high-efficiency domestic solar modules. These advancements are aligned with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Make in India) initiative, which aims to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and promote self-reliance in the renewable energy sector.

The implementation of this project not only ensures the provision of affordable green power but also helps Telangana meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO). This alignment with state and national renewable energy goals underscores NLCIL’s role in fostering a sustainable energy future.

Historical Context and Future Outlook

NLCIL has a longstanding relationship with the state of Telangana, having supplied over 234 MW of affordable thermal power for more than three decades. This new venture into renewable energy marks the beginning of an enduring partnership aimed at advancing both Telangana’s and NLCIL’s sustainability objectives.

The agreement highlights NLCIL’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint and supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
