New 4DX auditorium opens at Scotiabank Theatre Chinook in Calgary
Canadian entertainment company Cineplex and CJ 4DPLEX, a cinema technology company have opened Canada’s second 4DX auditorium at the at Scotiabank Theatre Chinook in Calgary, Alberta.
The new, multi-sensory experience at the 4DX auditorium debuted at the Scotiabank Theatre Chinook through Universal Pictures’ action movie – Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
Commenting on the launch of the new 4DX auditorium at the Scotiabank Theatre Chinook, JongRyul Kim, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, said: “Cineplex guests will love watching the latest in the Fast & Furious franchise in 4DX, where the driving and action sequences will be perfectly amplified by motion-synchronized seats and vibration.”
According to CJ 4DPLEX, the 4DX technology keeps the audience engaged throughout the movie by improving the on-screen visuals of action-packed blockbusters. This is achieved through using motion-synchronized seats which enable special effects like creating weather, vibration, and scents among others as per the corresponding scene in the movie.

In 2016, Cineplex and CJ 4DPLEX joined forces to open the first-ever 4DX auditorium at Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas and VIP. After the success of the first 4DX auditorium, the two companies signed an expanded agreement in September 2018 to introduce the 4DX experience to 13 more Cineplex locations across Canada in the coming years.
Additionally, Cineplex and CJ 4DPLEX opened the first-ever ScreenX auditorium in Canada, which was at Cineplex Cinemas Queensway and VIP in Toronto, Ontario last December. ScreenX provides a 270-degree, panoramic viewing experience that improves certain important scenes or moments throughout a movie by surrounding the audience, to create a truly immersive experience.
