Nestlé Nespresso to expand Romont production center with $170m investment

Nestlé Nespresso (Nespresso) will invest CHF160 million ($170.28 million) to expand its production center in to address the growing consumer demand for its premium coffees and support global development in the coming years.

In this regard, the coffee company will start construction of a second production hall in June 2021 which will add 10 new production lines, which will be exclusively used for producing Nespresso coffees for the Vertuo and Professional ranges.

The investment will generate 300 new direct jobs in the coming 10 years while boosting third party employment and local and regional business development.

Nespresso expects the first new production lines to be fully operational by June 2022.

Inaugurated in 2015, the Romont coffee factory is the center of excellence for the production of Nespresso’s Vertuo coffees, which are now sold across 21 countries in North America, , and Asia. Vertuo makes freshly brewed coffee in five different cup sizes using the Centrifusion technology that identifies the bar code on the capsule and adjusts the quantity of water, extraction speed, and temperature to produce a perfect cup of coffee.

In the last couple of years, Nespresso added four new production lines at the Romont coffee factory, while creating 50 new jobs. Besides, the coffee company inaugurated a new product development center and a coffee campus to foster coffee innovation and expertise.
