N Chandrababu Naidu sent to 14-day judicial custody in corruption case

N Chandrababu Naidu, the chief of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days in relation to a multi-crore corruption case, according to officials. Naidu was transferred to the Central Prison in Rajamahendravaram, East Godavari district, in the early hours of Monday, following a nearly 200-km journey from Vijayawada.

“Went in the Prison Around 1:20 am,” Says East Godavari SP

“Chandrababu Naidu went in the prison around 1:20 am,” stated East Godavari district Superintendent of Police P Jagadish in a conversation with PTI.

Special Accommodations Granted by Court

During his judicial custody, Naidu has been granted special amenities by the court, including home-cooked food, medication, and a separate room within the prison. The 73-year-old former chief minister is a Z-plus category security protectee, and these arrangements have been made considering the purported threats to his life.

Son Nara Lokesh Visits Father in Prison

Nara Lokesh, Naidu’s son and the TDP’s general secretary, followed his father to the prison gates, where he remained for some time before departing.

Judge Cites Grounds for Belief in Accusations

According to the detention order, the judge emphasized that there are grounds to substantiate the allegations made against Naidu and stated that 24 hours were insufficient for a complete investigation. Naidu was arrested in relation to the Skill Development Corporation scam. The arrest took place in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday at Nandyala, where Naidu was taken into custody by the CID at around 6 am from a marriage hall.
