A tragic helicopter crash in Nepal on July 11 resulted in the death of all six onboard, including five members of a Mexican family, according to government officials.
The Manang Air helicopter had lost contact and crashed in the Solukhumbu district’s Lamjura area, a region situated between Jiri and Phaplu.
Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung was piloting the helicopter, as confirmed by Raju Neupane, the Operation and Safety Manager at Manang Air. The remaining identities are yet to be released. A rescue operation, involving an Altitude Air chopper and security personnel, was initiated following the accident.
Gyanendra Bhul, an Information Officer, stated that the helicopter lost communication with the control tower while en route to Kathmandu from Solukhumbu at approximately 10:00am local time. The wreckage was later discovered by locals at Chihandanda in the Lamjura region of the Bhakanje village.
The helicopter had departed from Surke Airport, located in the district known for housing Mount Everest and other prominent peaks, and was en route to Kathmandu when it lost all communication. It was flying at an altitude of over 12,000 feet when it lost contact.
