In a move that’s sent shockwaves throughout the political arena, an alleged leader of the Hamas group, Khaled Mashal, known for its October 7 attack on Israel, made a sensational virtual appearance at a rally in Kerala’s Malappuram. Organized by the Solidarity Youth Movement, the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, the event now sits at the epicenter of a fiery political debate.

Kerala’s Political Landscape Shaken by Hamas Connection

As video footage revealed, Mashal could clearly be seen addressing the masses. But it’s the political fallout that’s stolen the limelight. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president K Surendran did not mince words, launching a scathing attack on the Kerala Police and demanding action against this shocking participation. Surendran raised the alarm, stating, “Hamas leader Khaled Mashel’s virtual address at the Solidarity event in Malappuram is alarming. Where’s Pinarayi Vijayan’s Kerala Police? Under the guise of ‘Save Palestine,’ they’re glorifying Hamas, a terrorist organization, and its leaders as ‘warriors.’ This is unacceptable!”

BJP’s Fiery Response: Calling Out Congress and Kerala Police

The BJP’s ire didn’t stop there. In a further twist, they targeted Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor for attending a “pro-Hamas” event by the Indian Union Muslim League supporting Palestine. With tens of thousands taking to the streets of Kozhikode to stand with Palestine, BJP’s Surendran expressed grave concern over potential communal rifts. The BJP heavyweight went on to label the IUML rally as “pro-Hamas,” accusing participants of anti-national sloganeering and called out Tharoor’s involvement, especially given his past UN diplomat role, as contradicting the nation’s stance.
