The shooter, a man who drove to the park, exited his vehicle and opened fire with a 9mm semiautomatic Glock, discharging as many as 28 rounds, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. Among the victims was an 8-year-old child who was critically wounded with a gunshot to the head. After the shooting, the gunman returned to his car, drove away calmly, and later died by suicide at his home.
Police were quick to respond, with the first officer arriving at the scene within two minutes of the 911 call.
