Mamata Banerjee inaugurates water treatment plant by VA TECH WABAG in Hooghly

In a significant development aimed at bolstering water security in West Bengal, the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Drinking Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Uttarpara, Hooghly. The facility, boasting a capacity of 55 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), was meticulously designed, built, and commissioned for the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) by VA TECH WABAG LIMITED (WABAG), a leading water technology Indian multinational company.

This landmark project is set to benefit approximately 20 lakh residents of the Uttarpara Municipality by ensuring an uninterrupted supply of clean and safe drinking water. The Design, Build, Operate (DBO) project encompassed the design, construction, procurement, commissioning, and the provision of coagulants and disinfectants for the WTP. A pivotal feature of the plant is its ability to ensure treated water quality of less than 1 Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU), highlighting the commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Additionally, the project includes a 5MG Clear Water Underground Reservoir, focusing solely on civil work, at Uttarpara Municipality, Hooghly, executed on a Turnkey Basis.

Employing cutting-edge, space-saving technologies such as Inclined Plate Settler and Gravity Sand Media Filter, along with an Auto Poly Dosing System, the plant represents a significant advancement in water treatment processes. WABAG’s role extends beyond construction, as the company has been entrusted with the operation and maintenance of the plants for a period of 5 years, guaranteeing a consistent supply of clean and safe drinking water.

He highlighted the company’s successful track record in executing several water and wastewater infrastructure projects, along with efficiently operating and maintaining the executed plants.
