Lupin Diagnostics opens first reference laboratory in Kolkata

Lupin Limited said that its recently created diagnostics business — Lupin Diagnostics has opened its first reference laboratory in eastern India at Kolkata.

The new reference laboratory can carry out a wide spectrum of routine and specialized tests in the areas of molecular diagnostics, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cytology, histopathology, serology, microbiology, immunology, haematology, and routine biochemistry.

Lupin Diagnostics is also establishing laboratories in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, and Jharkhand to serve the East India region. The processing labs will be located in Siliguri, Berhampore, Burdwan, Asansol, and Bankura in West Bengal, Guwahati in Assam, Patna in Bihar, Ranchi and Dhanbad in Jharkhand, and Bhubaneshwar in Odisha.

The labs are planned to be connected to LupiMitra, which is the name of Lupin’s franchise collection centers.

Lupin Diagnostics is claimed to have over 100 LupiMitra that have been enrolled already for its East India operations.

Ravindra Kumar — Lupin Diagnostics Vice President and Head said: “Diagnostics is the first step in disease management. Lack of timely and accurate diagnosis limits the possibility of effective treatment.

“According to industry estimates, evidence-based treatment is the new normal in India, and about 70% of treatment decisions are now based on diagnostics tests. We are very pleased to now offer our services in East India, a very important region for us.”
