Ledyard Windpower project : Duke Energy commences operations of 207MW Iowa wind farm

Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, a nonregulated commercial brand of Duke Energy, has commissioned its 207MW Ledyard Windpower project in Kossuth County, Iowa.

The Ledyard Windpower project, which was co-developed by Duke Energy and Amshore Renewable Energy, will generate enough green energy to power 75,000 homes in the country.

The wind project marks Duke Energy’s first in Iowa and features 46 Vestas V150 4.5-MW turbines.

Chris Fallon — Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions president said: “More than 10% of the nation’s wind power is in Iowa, and it’s exciting for our company to begin operating in that market.

“We also have a terrific customer in Verizon, and we’re pleased to help them advance their own renewable energy portfolio for their operations.”

Duke Energy has entered into a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) to supply 180MW to Verizon Communications from the Ledyard Windpower project.

James Gowen — Verizon chief sustainability officer and global supply chain senior vice president, said: “Verizon’s support of renewable energy is a key enabler to achieving our goal of net-zero emissions in our operations by 2035.

“Through investments in clean energy solutions – like this agreement with Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions – Verizon is doing its part to green the U.S. energy grid.”

Duke Energy will maintain and operate the Ledyard Windpower project that created approximately 200 jobs during peak construction.
