In a significant move for India’s defence sector, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has awarded Larsen & Toubro (L&T) a prestigious contract valued between Rs 5,000 crores and Rs 10,000 crores. This contract mandates L&T to supply High Power Radars (HPR) to the Indian Air Force (IAF), a key component in strengthening the country’s aerial surveillance capabilities. These radars are set to enhance the IAF’s capabilities in monitoring special zones, tracking adversaries with unmatched accuracy across multiple locations on a turnkey basis.

Further solidifying its role in enhancing India’s defence infrastructure, L&T also confirmed signing another contract for supplying indigenously developed Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS) to the IAF. Planned to be deployed across various strategic locations in India, the CIWS aims to protect vital assets from low flying, low signature aerial threats, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This system integrates Air Defence Guns, Tracking Radars, a Search Radar, and a Command & Control Shelter, along with simulators and communication equipment, offering a comprehensive defence mechanism against aerial threats.

Both the CIWS and HPR projects will be realized at L&T’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, in collaboration with industrial ecosystem partners and MSMEs across India, reinforcing the company’s commitment to bolstering India’s self-reliance in defence capabilities. Mr. Arun Ramchandani, EVP & Head Defence business at L&T, highlighted the competitive selection of L&T for these high-tech projects as a testament to the company’s prowess in design, development, precision engineering, and manufacturing of advanced platforms and systems for the Indian Armed Forces.
