Larsen & Toubro’s L&T Construction Railway Business Group has achieved a significant milestone by securing a mega contract, valued between Rs 10,000 crores to 15,000 crores, for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project. This prestigious project, often referred to as the Bullet Train Project, represents a leap forward in the Indian railway sector.

Scope and Significance of the Electrification Project

Under this contract, the Railways Strategic Business Group of L&T Construction will undertake the design, manufacture, supply, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the 2 x 25 kV power supply electrification system, including traction substations and high-speed overhead equipment. This project, spanning 508 Route Km, is the first of its kind in India, implementing Japanese Shinkansen High-Speed Electrification Technology.

Innovative Features and Expected Outcomes

The electrification system will enable trains to reach speeds of up to 320 KMPH, incorporating sophisticated equipment like Heavy Compound Catenary Systems and Change Over Switches. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by an authorized Japanese agency on behalf of National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), this project is a symbol of international collaboration in infrastructure.
