L3Harris Technologies to deliver VAMPIRE weapons systems to Ukrainian Army
L3Harris Technologies has bagged a contract worth $40 million from the US Department of Defense (DoD) for the supply of 14 Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) multi-purpose weapons systems to be used by the Ukrainian Army.
According to L3Harris Technologies, the portable VAMPIRE kit will enable Ukraine soldiers in targeting and shooting down enemy drones and guard against ground threats from the enemy.
L3Harris Technologies stated that the VAMPIRE systems ordered by the US DoD are customized to deliver highly important defense assets to help Ukraine shield its civilian infrastructure against enemy attacks.
Luke Savoie — L3Harris Technologies Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance President said: “We’ve invested in procurement, testing and certification since August so VAMPIRE production can begin without delay.
“We’re committed to supporting a U.S. strategic partner with a robust capability, as the people of Ukraine continue to defend their country and protect their independence.”
As per the US DoD contract, L3Harris Technologies will be mounting VAMPIRE kits on vehicles provided by the US government for agile combat support to the battlefield in Ukrainian.
The aerospace and defense company will deliver four VAMPIRE systems by mid-2023 and the remaining 10 by the end of this year.
Submitted to the DoD in April 2022, the VAMPIRE prototype, was chosen by the department in August 2022 as part of its security assistance package of $3 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
L3Harris Technologies commenced field testing in 2021 and continued range and durability tests last summer.
The company revealed that the mission management system of the VAMPIRE system integrates an advanced WESCAM MX-10 RSTA targeting sensor with its weapons station to enable an operator to engage targets quickly and with precision.
