Kwinana Renewable Fuels project : Saunders wins tank refurbishment contract from BP

Saunders International has bagged an AUD 42 million contract to provide tank refurbishment and modification services for BP at its Kwinana Renewable Fuels project in Perth, Western Australia.

The fixed price engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract is a vital component of bp’s Kwinana Renewable Fuels project. Under this agreement, the Australian engineering and construction company will repurpose 25 tanks at the bp Kwinana energy hub for feedstock or biofuels storage.

The Kwinana Renewable Fuels project is part of BP’s global plan to establish five biorefineries to achieve a production capacity of approximately 50,000 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), commonly referred to as renewable diesel, by the year 2030.

With a focus on the decarbonization of aviation and heavy industry, the Kwinana Renewable Fuels project aims to repurpose existing infrastructure at the bp Kwinana site to produce lower carbon fuel products. However, the biorefinery project in Western Australia is subject to regulatory and state government approvals.

Commencing in July 2023, the Kwinana Renewable Fuels project work is expected to contribute to Saunders International’ revenue and earnings from FY24 to FY26.
