JFK International Airport Terminal 6 : Construction to begin in early 2023

The construction work on a new $4.2bn terminal at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York — JFK International Airport Terminal 6 will commence in early 2023.

To this effect, the financial close and the signing of a lease deal along with securing environmental approval by the Federal Aviation Administration have been announced by the New York government.

The new 1.2 million square foot and 10-gate JFK International Airport Terminal 6 is the final piece of the Port Authority’s $18 billion transformation of the John F Kennedy International Airport.

New York Governor Kathleen Hochul said: “JFK International — the nation’s door to the world — will soon be worthy of New Yorkers, providing an unparalleled passenger experience.

“This historic $18 billion investment will not only transform JFK into a world-class airport, but also create 4,000 jobs in the process, and I thank everyone who put in the years of hard work to move this project forward.”

Terminal 6 at the JFK International Airport, set to be a new New York City home to JetBlue and Lufthansa, will be connected with JetBlue’s Terminal 5 for improved passenger experience.

Situated on the north side of the airport, Terminal 6 will offer over 100,000 square feet of shopping and dining opportunities.

Terminal 6 project is expected to generate over 4,000 jobs, including 1,800 union construction jobs.

The JFK International Airport Terminal 6 project is a public-private partnership between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and four private companies, namely JFK Millennium Partners, American Triple I, RXR and JetBlue Airways.

Rick Cotton — Port Authority Executive Director said: “The financial close on a new Terminal 6 allows us to move forward with the final piece of our plan to transform JFK International Airport into one of the world’s great global gateways.

JFK International Airport Terminal 6 is expected to open in 2026 with project completion anticipated in 2028.
