Invenergy to deliver 760MW renewable energy for Meta’s clean energy targets
Meta Platforms, Inc. (Nasdaq: META) has partnered with Chicago-based Invenergy in a landmark renewable energy deal, securing 760 megawatts (MW) of clean energy through four Environmental Attribute Purchase Agreements (EAPAs). With this agreement, Meta’s total renewable energy procurement from Invenergy surpasses the 1-gigawatt (GW) milestone, marking a significant step towards achieving its clean energy goals.
Invenergy, the largest privately held clean energy developer, has committed to supporting Meta’s operations by developing four utility-scale solar facilities. These projects not only address Meta’s increasing energy needs but also contribute to sustainable energy solutions and regional economic growth.
Ted Romaine, Executive Vice President of Origination at Invenergy, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its impact on clean energy development and job creation. Romaine emphasised that these projects demonstrate Invenergy’s ability to deliver long-term clean energy solutions for partners like Meta.
Meta’s commitment to 100% clean energy remains central to its operational strategy. Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta, described the milestone as a testament to the company’s dedication to renewable energy adoption and sustainability. Parekh acknowledged Invenergy’s role in driving these achievements and underlined the importance of collaboration in reaching ambitious sustainability goals.
The renewable energy projects covered under this agreement are strategically located across the United States to optimise their impact. Hardin II Solar in Ohio, with a capacity of 150 MW, is set to begin commercial operations in 2024. Following this, Delilah II Solar in Texas, also with a 150 MW capacity, is expected to commence operations in 2025. In 2026, the Tip Top Solar facility in New Mexico, with a capacity of 110 MW, will come online. Finally, Chalk Bluff Solar in Arkansas, the largest of the four with a capacity of 350 MW, is slated to start operations in 2027. These facilities are designed to supply clean energy to local grids, enhancing regional energy reliability while advancing Meta’s clean energy goals.
These solar facilities will not only supply energy to the grid but will also allow Meta to receive clean energy credits for bringing new renewable capacity online. The projects represent a broader impact on addressing rising energy demand and delivering sustainable energy solutions.
