Hornea 2 wind farm contract : Danish wind power company Ørsted has selected UK-based subsea EPC company Subsea 7’s Seaway 7 for the installation of the entire inner array cables for the 1,386MW Hornea 2 wind farm in the UK North Sea as per the latest offshore wind industry news.

Optimus, a subsidiary of Ørsted placed the order to Seaway 7, valued at $50-100m.

Seaway 7 is the brand under which Subsea 7’s renewables and heavy lifting business unit provides specialist heavy lifting and cable installation services for offshore wind farm projects.

Under the Hornea 2 wind farm contract, Seaway 7 will also be responsible for pre-installation submarine cable route survey, pre-installation boulder clearance activities, and post-lay trenching service.

The inner array cable system comprises 165 x 66kV copper-core submarine composite cables with a total length of over 420km.

The project engineering work for the Hornea 2 wind farm contract will be started immediately by Seaway 7 and the offshore activities are expected to start in 2021.

Steph McNeill – Subsea 7 SVP Renewables and Heavy Lifting, commenting on the Hornea 2 wind farm contract, said: “We look forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with Ørsted to install the entire inner array grid cable system on the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm project. This award follows on from our reliable performance and successful completion of the installation activities for the Hornsea One offshore wind farm project earlier this year.”

The Hornea 2 wind farm will be equipped with 165 offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa, each having a capacity of 8.4 MW. The Ørsted offshore wind farm will be located 90km off the Yorkshire coast.

The Hornea 2 wind farm is expected to meet the power consumption needs of more than 1.3 million homes upon becoming operational in 2022.

Recently, DEME Offshore, a subsidiary of the DEME Group, was awarded a contract worth more than €200 million for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm from Orsted for the transport and installation of foundations and turbines.
