Swiss-French building material company Holcim will acquire FDT Flachdach Technologie (FDT), a Germany-based thermoplastic roofs manufacturer, for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition is expected to complement Holcim’s integrated roofing portfolio and expand its geographical footprint of the business.
Holcim’s roofing systems business is anticipated to surpass $4 billion in annual sales earlier than planned through the acquisition.
FDT Flachdach Technologie, which was previously known as Schildkröt Werke, has three product lines — roofing membranes, acid protection, and light systems.
The thermoplastic roofs producer in Germany with 2022 annual sales of €50 million, has a presence in European markets.

“Due to its leadership in technology and sustainability as well as its strong customer relationships, FDT will be a cornerstone of our continued expansion into the most attractive European roofing markets.
“I am excited to further grow and strengthen FDT’s business and welcome all 180 employees to the Holcim family.”
The Mannheim-headquartered FDT Flachdach Technologie said to offer environmental product declarations and participate in the recycling system RoofCollect, with locations across Germany, Belgium, and France.
With the acquisition, Holcim anticipates to advance its “Strategy 2025 – Accelerating Green Growth” with the goal to increase its Solutions & Products business to 30% of Group annual sales by 2025.
Subject to customary conditions and regulatory clearance, the acquisition is of the German thermoplastic roofs manufacturer is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2023.
Just a few weeks back, Holcim signed an agreement to acquire Duro-Last, a US-based manufacturer of commercial roofing systems, in a transaction valued at $1.3 billion.
