Hewlett Packard Enterprise to acquire Morpheus Data to boost hybrid cloud capabilities

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Morpheus Data, a leading provider of hybrid cloud management and platform operations software. This strategic acquisition underscores HPE’s commitment to enhancing its HPE GreenLake cloud platform by incorporating advanced multi-vendor and multicloud capabilities.

The integration of Morpheus Data is expected to significantly elevate HPE GreenLake’s functionality, offering improved application provisioning, orchestration, and automation across various cloud environments. The acquisition also includes FinOps capabilities aimed at optimizing cloud costs, aligning with HPE’s broader strategy to simplify IT operations and manage complex hybrid IT estates more effectively.

Strengthening Hybrid Cloud Management

Morpheus Data’s software will augment HPE GreenLake’s existing offerings by facilitating comprehensive lifecycle management of applications across both traditional and modern cloud infrastructures. This enhancement is crucial as enterprises continue to navigate increasingly complex and diverse IT landscapes.

By integrating Morpheus Data’s capabilities, HPE GreenLake will provide seamless provisioning and management of workloads, including those on brownfield private and public infrastructure. The inclusion of FinOps tools will enable enterprises to better understand and control their cloud spending, placing essential guardrails around usage and optimizing workload costs.

The acquisition follows HPE’s successful purchase of IT operations management firm OpsRamp in 2023, further solidifying HPE’s position as a leader in hybrid cloud solutions. Together, these acquisitions position HPE as a major player in offering a comprehensive suite of enterprise-grade hybrid cloud services.

Future-Proofing Hybrid IT with HPE GreenLake

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is positioning HPE GreenLake as the definitive platform for hybrid IT innovation. Fidelma Russo, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Hybrid Cloud and Chief Technology Officer at HPE, stated, “With the acquisition of Morpheus Data, we will take the next major leap to make HPE GreenLake cloud the de facto platform for innovating across hybrid IT.”

The acquisition is set to close early in the fourth quarter of HPE’s 2024 fiscal year, subject to standard closing conditions. Following the acquisition, Morpheus Data’s technology will be integrated into the HPE GreenLake cloud platform and the company’s private cloud portfolio. Morpheus Data will continue to be available as standalone software, ensuring support for existing customers and partnerships.
