Gulf Edge Company Limited and Google Cloud have entered into an agreement to provide next-generation sovereign cloud services in Thailand, tailored to meet the country’s stringent data residency, security, and privacy requirements. This partnership marks a significant step in enhancing the digital infrastructure of Thailand’s critical industries, including healthcare, public safety, energy, and utilities.
Under this agreement, Gulf Edge will operate as a Managed GDC Provider (MGP) for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC), focusing on delivering services in air-gapped configurations, which require no connectivity to Google Cloud regions or the public internet. This approach ensures the highest levels of security and sovereignty, as data operations and software remain entirely within Thailand’s jurisdiction.
The deployment options for GDC air-gapped include on-premises setups or within Gulf group data centers, offering flexibility in terms of hardware configurations to cater to specific organizational needs. This setup supports Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act, ensuring all operations comply with national sovereignty regulations.
The collaboration between Gulf Edge and Google Cloud empowers Thai organizations to harness advanced AI and analytics capabilities provided by Google Cloud’s GDC. These technologies are pivotal in driving transformative innovations across various sectors, such as developing personalized healthcare treatments, enhancing public service delivery, and optimizing energy production in renewable sectors.
Sarath Ratanavadi, CEO of Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership: “Our collaboration with Google Cloud on Thailand’s first sovereign cloud solution with built-in AI and analytics underscores our commitment to technological leadership and sustainable development.”
This partnership not only boosts Thailand’s digital competitiveness but also opens up new revenue opportunities for Gulf and enhances the potential for further cooperation in cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity. It sets the stage for both companies to explore deeper collaborations aimed at advancing Thailand’s position as a regional leader in digital innovation.
This strategic alliance is a game-changer for Thailand’s digital landscape. By integrating Google Cloud’s cutting-edge AI and infrastructure capabilities with Gulf’s expertise in energy and digital infrastructure, the partnership is poised to deliver robust, secure, and compliant cloud services that are critical for the nation’s digital transformation initiatives.
