GMR Group snags LOA for smart metering project in Uttar Pradesh

GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited, a key player in India’s infrastructure sector, has hit another milestone by receiving the Letter of Award (LOA) for a massive smart metering project in Uttar Pradesh. The LOA, secured by GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Private Limited (GSEDPL), an erstwhile subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited, authorizes the installation, integration, and maintenance of a staggering 75.69 lakh smart meters across multiple zones in Uttar Pradesh. This follows a prior LOA issued by Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PuVNL) for 50.17 lakh smart meters.

GSEDPL Scores Big with Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam LOA

In a fresh update, GSEDPL has now also obtained an LOA from Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, covering the Agra and Aligarh zones of Uttar Pradesh. This extension allows GSEDPL to install, integrate, and maintain an additional 25.52 lakh smart meters in these zones. The contract’s estimated completion is 27 months from its execution date, with an operating period of 93 months. The total contract value for the Agra and Aligarh zone is approximately INR 2469.71 crores.

Project to Transform Uttar Pradesh’s Power Sector

This monumental project is part of an e-tender floated by UP Discoms, where GSEDPL emerged as the winning bidder. The ambitious Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project will span over a 10-year period, providing state-of-the-art technology and software solutions for an end-to-end automated system. The project is undertaken under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and aims to drastically cut AT&C losses while boosting operational and collection efficiency for UP Discoms.
