US energy storage developer GlidePath Power Solutions has acquired a 149MW wind farm portfolio located in North Texas from Exelon Generation, for an undisclosed price, as per the latest US wind industry news.
GlidePath Power Solutions said that the acquisition adds to its present operating portfolio made up of solar, wind and storage products in the US and gives it the scope to add battery storage for streamlining the performance of its facilities.
The operating portfolio of the US energy storage developer exceeds 445MW following the acquisition of the Texas wind farm portfolio, in addition to its current development pipeline of 1GW plus battery storage projects in the US.
Located north of Amarillo, the acquired wind portfolio comprises eight distributed wind energy projects that serve the Southwest Power Pool market.
The transaction follows the recent announcement made by GlidePath Power Solutions of developing a 10MW/MWh standalone battery facility in the form of the Prospect Storage project.
The Prospect Storage project is located in the ERCOT market nearly 50 miles south of Houston and is in the advanced construction phase.
David Braun – President of GlidePath Asset Management said: “The high penetration of wind energy in North Texas offers us an excellent opportunity to pair these facilities with the latest battery storage technology. We look forward to managing these wind assets in a way that will hopefully strengthen reliability of supply in the local electric grid and deliver benefits for Texas power consumers.”
GlidePath Power Solutions, which is a portfolio company of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, has a development pipeline of more than 1GW of battery storage projects. Included in this are new facilities at various stages of permitting approval and pre-construction planning, located in New York, Texas and all over the PJM grid operator’s service territory.
