California nightmare: Indian-American teen killed in senseless shooting
In a tragic incident that has shaken the Indian-American community in California, a 16-year-old teen, Jackson Kavil, was allegedly gunned down in Gilroy, California. The grim news spread like wildfire as local news outlets reported the arrest of Edwin Sanchez, 18, in connection with the shooting.
On the ill-fated night of July 20, Jackson was rushed to Saint Louise Hospital, arriving shortly before 9 pm. Despite the relentless attempts of the medical staff, the young teen’s life couldn’t be saved. He was declared dead, plunging his family and friends into a sea of despair.
In a heart-wrenching social media post, a relative, Jasmine Kavil, indirectly shared their sorrow. She remembered Jackson as a jester who took delight in spreading joy and smiles. She mourned the loss of their beloved youngest member, who, she said, was blessed with a generous heart and will be sorely missed. As they grapple with this devastating loss, the family has appealed for prayers and support.
Jyoti Kavil, another family member, confirmed through a Facebook post that the funeral will be held on July 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Gilroy, California. To allow friends and relatives in India to participate, a Zoom link will also be available.
In the wake of the tragedy, the family and friends of Jackson, who was known for his kindness and jovial nature, have started a GoFundMe campaign to manage the funeral and travel expenses. The campaign was initiated by friends of Rani and Sunny, who hail from Kerala‘s Kaipuzha and are identified as Jackson’s parents. The couple reportedly runs a restaurant in Gilroy and Rani is believed to work as a nurse.
