Gensol Engineering bags Rs 186cr contract for rooftop solar project in Dubai
Gensol Engineering Limited has been awarded an AED 81.6 million (INR 186 crore) contract to develop a 23 MWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Dubai. This contract represents a major achievement for Gensol, further solidifying its status as a leading entity in the renewable energy sector while expanding its influence across the Middle East.
The contract, awarded by a prominent UAE-based sustainable development firm, encompasses the comprehensive design, construction, and long-term maintenance of rooftop solar PV systems for a key aviation facility in Dubai. The 20-month execution period of this project highlights Gensol’s commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives throughout the region and supporting Dubai’s strategic ambitions to establish itself as a global leader in clean energy by 2050.
This 23 MWp rooftop solar project is directly aligned with Dubai’s overarching vision for a more sustainable future. Kapil K Nirmal, CEO of Solar EPC in MENA at Gensol, conveyed the company’s enthusiasm for collaborating with the UAE’s leading sustainable energy entity. Nirmal indicated that this contract underscores Gensol’s commitment to delivering innovative and efficient solar EPC solutions within the Middle East. Furthermore, the project is set to significantly reduce carbon emissions for one of the region’s critical industrial operations, thereby contributing to Dubai’s ambitious sustainability targets.
The scope of the project encompasses the procurement of materials, construction, testing, and commissioning of the rooftop solar PV systems. Gensol’s extensive expertise in solar EPC is indispensable for the successful execution of this initiative, which will substantially lower the aviation facility’s carbon footprint and foster sustainable energy solutions within the region.
Founded in 2012, Gensol Engineering Limited has experienced substantial growth, establishing itself as a key player in solar power engineering, procurement, and construction services. Over the years, Gensol has successfully executed over 770 MW of solar projects across India, encompassing rooftop, ground-mounted, and floating solar installations. Beyond its solar power ventures, the company has expanded into the electric vehicle market, with an EV manufacturing facility situated in Chakan, Pune.
Recently, Gensol acquired Scorpius Trackers, a provider of advanced single-axis solar tracking solutions, further enhancing its renewable energy offerings. The company is also actively involved in the development of Green Hydrogen Production infrastructure, thereby demonstrating its versatile capabilities within the renewable sector. The recent contract secured in Dubai strengthens Gensol’s position in the Middle Eastern energy market, as the company continues to expand its international reach.
Valued at AED 81.6 million, the project aligns with Gensol’s broader strategic vision to increase its international footprint while contributing to clean energy solutions. The rooftop solar installation will play a pivotal role in supporting Dubai’s 2050 vision, which aims to generate 75% of the city’s energy from clean sources.
Industry experts have lauded Gensol’s recent contract as a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy. Analysts emphasize that this contract reinforces Gensol’s reputation as a dependable partner in the renewable energy domain, capable of managing large-scale, complex solar projects. They further note that the Middle East’s growing emphasis on renewable energy provides substantial opportunities for firms like Gensol to contribute to the region’s sustainability objectives.
Experts also highlighted that Dubai’s evolving clean energy targets are increasingly ambitious, and the involvement of established players like Gensol is critical for accelerating progress. The focus on developing rooftop solar energy solutions demonstrates the crucial role that distributed solar power will have in mitigating reliance on fossil fuels over the coming decades.
