Game-changer for small businesses! Paytm launches solar-powered payment device
Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), India‘s leading digital payment solutions provider, has unveiled its latest innovation—the Paytm Solar Soundbox, the country’s first solar-powered device designed to streamline UPI transactions for merchants. This breakthrough device ensures seamless payment processing, even in areas with unreliable electricity, by harnessing solar energy for all-day power.
The solar-powered payments device offers a sustainable solution to India’s small business owners, particularly hawkers, artisans, and street vendors, who often face power supply issues. Featuring a dual-battery system, the device runs on solar energy while also supporting traditional electrical charging, ensuring uninterrupted service.
A breakthrough in digital payment solutions for India’s merchants
Designed for ease of use, the Paytm Solar Soundbox integrates a QR code scanner that facilitates UPI transactions device payments through RuPay credit cards and mobile UPI wallets. Even in low sunlight conditions, the device charges efficiently and can remain operational for an entire day after just two to three hours of exposure to sunlight.
Incorporating advanced 4G connectivity, the soundbox delivers instant audio payment confirmations through a powerful 3-watt speaker, ensuring merchants can hear payment alerts even in noisy environments. The device is also multilingual, supporting audio confirmations in 11 languages, making it accessible to a broad customer base across India.
Government support and Paytm’s commitment to innovation
The launch of the solar-powered payments solution aligns with India’s push for digital and sustainable financial inclusion. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary highlighted that empowering small merchants with accessible technology is key to fostering economic growth. He described the initiative as a “commendable step” toward enabling small businesses, especially those in remote areas, to participate in digital commerce.
Paytm’s CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma reaffirmed the company’s commitment to digital payment solutions that cater to small merchants. He emphasized that the Paytm Solar Soundbox is a testament to the company’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and financial inclusion.
Expanding Paytm’s payment technology ecosystem
This launch follows Paytm’s recent rollout of its NFC Card Soundbox, a next-generation device integrating NFC payments with QR-based mobile transactions. By consistently pushing the boundaries of digital finance, Paytm aims to create seamless, solar-powered payments experiences that support small businesses across the country.
Paytm continues to enhance its ecosystem by enabling users to link bank accounts, create UPI IDs, and use UPI transactions devices for fast and secure transactions. With innovations like UPI Lite, RuPay credit card payments via UPI, and auto-pay services, the company remains at the forefront of India’s digital payments landscape.
