French dairy giant Lactalis to acquire US yogurt brand siggi’s
Lactalis acquisition of siggi’s : French dairy giant Lactalis has struck a deal to acquire siggi’s, a yogurt manufacturer in USA for an undisclosed price as per the latest food acquisition news.
Headquartered in New York City, siggi’s is the maker of Icelandic style skyr yogurts which it says are prepared using simple ingredients with low content of sugar.
On its website, siggi’s has claimed that its yogurts have at least 25% less sugar than leading flavored yogurt brands.
Commenting on Lactalis acquisition of siggi’s, Emmanuel Besnier – the President of the Lactalis Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome siggi’s to the Lactalis Group, which further expands our yogurt platform in the U.S. with this unique and fast-growing yogurt brand.
“We look forward to supporting siggi’s as it continues to bring its retail partners exceptional dollar growth in the yogurt category.”
Founded by Siggi Hilmarsson, siggi’s is among the top five selling yogurt brand in several mainstream grocery store chains like Publix, Meijer and Stop & Shop, says the French dairy giant Lactalis.
Post its acquisition by Lactalis, siggi’s will continue its operations from its New York City office as a standalone company. The yogurt manufacturer in USA will be continued to be led by its incumbent senior leadership team, which includes its founder Siggi Hilmarsson as CEO, and Bart Adlam to stay on as President.
Siggi Hilmarsson, commenting on Lactalis acquisition of siggi’s, said: “We’re excited to join the Lactalis family which offers the opportunity to further fuel our growth.
“Our core values of clean ingredient label and less sugar will remain 100 percent unchanged. Consumers everywhere are actively trying to reduce sugar in their diets so our offering has a global relevance.”
Earlier in the week, the US yogurt brand siggi’s launched a new lower-sugar yogurt product which is sweetened only with fruit. The new whole-milk no added sugar yogurt will be available in two flavors – banana & cinnamon and peach & mango.
