Freeport LNG export project Train 2 ships first commissioning cargo
The Freeport LNG export project in Texas owned by Freeport LNG Development has shipped the first commissioning cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced from its second LNG train.
The milestone was reported by McDermott International, which has been working alongside Chiyoda International and Zachry Group on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), in addition to commissioning and initial operations for the first three trains of the four-train US LNG export project.
Earlier this month, McDermott International announced that the Freeport LNG project train 2 had started production of LNG. The oil and gas industry contractor said that the shipping of the first commissioning cargo is an indication that the Freeport LNG export project train 2 has been substantially completed.
Mark Coscio – McDermott International Senior Vice President for North, Central and South America, commenting on the Freeport LNG export project milestone achieved by Train 2, said: “The ongoing momentum of this project has accelerated us past multiple accomplishments, including Train 1’s introduction of feed gas, first liquid and first cargo. And, we are well on our way toward commercial operation for Train 2.
“I commend the project team for delivering these results and getting us closer to substantial completion.”
The Freeport LNG project, which is being developed on Quintana Island in Freeport will have a capacity of producing more than 20mtpa of LNG.
Freeport LNG export project Train 1 was brought into production in August 2019 and in the next month shipped its first cargo.
According to McDermott International, Train 2 and Train 3 of the US LNG export project continue to be on schedule with the initial production of LNG from the third LNG train slated for the first quarter of 2020.
