In an ambitious move towards augmenting Australia’s renewable energy capabilities, EEW Eco Energy World, a renowned global developer of renewable energy projects, has forged a significant partnership with Grupo COBRA, a leader in industrial and energy services. This collaboration is set to bring to life a 200 MWdc solar photovoltaic (PV) farm coupled with a 50 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project situated in Queensland, Australia. Targeted to achieve a ready-to-build status within 2024, this project is a key milestone in both companies’ commitments to enhancing sustainable energy production.
The project is poised to make a substantial impact on clean energy generation, with an anticipated annual output exceeding 400 GWh. This output is enough to supply electricity to around 72,500 households, significantly contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions by approximately 260,000 metric tons each year. Such a reduction is comparable to removing about 93,000 cars from the roads permanently, marking a significant step towards combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
Svante Kumlin, CEO of EEW, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the company’s established track record in Australia and its extensive multi-GW pipeline in the country. “This project is a testament to our commitment to provide innovative and sustainable energy for Australia; we are proud to be part of the Queensland energy transition since 2015,” Kumlin stated, underscoring the strategic importance of this venture in EEW’s portfolio.
José Antonio Fernández García, Managing Director – Energy and Industrial Plants at COBRA IS, mirrored this excitement. He noted, “This partnership is a clear indication of our commitment to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future,” emphasizing the shared vision of both organizations in fostering a sustainable energy landscape.
The collaboration between EEW Eco Energy World and Grupo COBRA represents a critical development in Australia’s renewable energy sector. By combining solar PV and BESS technologies, this project not only enhances the region’s energy supply but also reinforces the reliability of renewable energy sources. It serves as a model for future projects worldwide, illustrating the effectiveness of integrated renewable energy solutions in achieving significant environmental benefits while meeting the growing energy demands.
