E.A. Gibson Shipbrokers, SOGDC forge partnership for Sabah’s Oil and Gas Industrial Park Development
E.A. Gibson Shipbrokers Ltd (Gibson), a renowned London-based shipbroker, and Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC), have officially embarked on a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing the development of the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) in Sabah, Malaysia. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, represents a pivotal move towards enhancing oil and gas facilities within the region, promising to boost the local economy and create high-quality job opportunities.
The collaboration between Gibson and SOGDC signifies a significant leap in the development of SOGIP, with a feasibility study already in progress and expected to conclude by May 2024. This undertaking underscores both entities’ commitment to realizing the full potential of SOGIP as a cornerstone for oil and gas operations in Sabah.
Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Chairman of SOGDC, highlighted the collaboration’s importance, stating, “SOGDC is aiming for a long-term cooperation with Gibson together with reputable international players to participate in the development of SOGIP to create high-quality jobs in the state of Sabah.” This statement underlines the strategic vision of transforming SOGIP into a dynamic hub for the oil and gas industry, attracting international investment and expertise.
Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park to Become Regional Hub with New Gibson-SOGDC Collaboration
SOGDC’s CEO, Datuk Harun Ismail, further emphasized the impact of this partnership, noting that working with Gibson and leveraging its global clientele would “unlock energy availability for domestic and international markets,” thereby positioning SOGIP as a key regional hub.
With over 130 years of experience, Gibson brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and an extensive network within the international oil and gas sector. This expertise is poised to play a crucial role in steering the development of SOGIP towards success. On the other hand, SOGDC, operating under the Sabah state government’s purview, aims to leverage this partnership to catalyze economic growth and industrial development in Sabah, enhancing the state’s position in the global oil and gas industry.
