Dollar General opens new retail distribution center in Longview, Texas

US discount store retailer Dollar General has opened a new retail distribution center in Longview, Texas, which will serve nearly a thousand stores in the state and the southeast region.

The Dollar General distribution center in Longview is the retailer’s 16th distribution center in the US and the second in Texas after San Antonio, which opened in 2016. The discount retailer is constructing a 17th retail distribution center in Amsterdam, New York.

Dollar General broke ground on the near 1,000,000 square foot facility in early 2018 with Clayco being the general contractor. Leo A. Daly was the architectural engineering company and Elan Design was the civil engineering company to design and construct the new retail distribution center in Longview.

In addition to the two retail distribution centers in Texas, Dollar General has more than 1,500 stores that have more than 13,000 employees. The discount retailer announced plans to open the retail distribution center in Longview in December 2017, and started shipping from the facility in early 2019.

At full capacity, the discount store retailer is likely to hire over 400 people at the Longview distribution center.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, commenting on the new Dollar General retail distribution center in Longview, said: “The Texas economy continues to thrive because of investments like this one from Dollar General.

As of 3 May 2019, Dollar General operated 15,597 stores across 44 states in the US.
