A tragic event took place at a skydiving centre in Chrcynno, central Poland, where a plane crashed into a hangar due to adverse weather conditions, leading to five fatalities and eight injuries on Monday, July 17.
The casualties include the pilot and four individuals who were seeking refuge from the stormy weather in the hangar, authorities confirmed.
Local firefighters reported that the accident occurred at the Chrcynno airfield and the police were informed around 17:40 GMT. The crash site was roughly 47 kilometres (29 miles) from Warsaw. Four helicopters and ten ambulances were quickly deployed to the scene for assistance.
The wreckage revealed that the aircraft involved in the crash was a Cessna 208. Fire brigade spokesperson’s statements highlighted that those who perished inside the hangar were there to escape the adverse weather conditions when the incident happened.
Weather conditions are being considered as a potential factor that led to the unfortunate incident. A thorough examination of the weather during the crash will be part of the investigation to ascertain its role in the tragedy.
This crash is the deadliest of its kind since 2014 when a small plane crash near the southern city of Czestochowa resulted in 11 fatalities, according to the Associated Press. The exact cause of the crash will likely be determined in the ensuing investigation.
