Deadly electrocution incident during ‘Ulto Rath’ procession in Tripura claims six lives

In a tragic event in Unakoti district, Tripura, a chariot procession during the “Ulto Rath” festival resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two children, with 15 others critically injured.

The incident occurred when the iron chariot, heavily adorned for the return journey of Hindu god Jagannath and his siblings after the annual Rath Yatra festival, came into contact with a high-voltage electric wire overhead.

The unexpected surge of electricity instantly claimed six lives, leaving a host of other participants severely wounded. Those injured were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where they are reportedly fighting for their lives. Law enforcement officers have initiated an investigation to ascertain how the tragic incident unfolded.

Responding to the unfortunate event, Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, expressed his profound sadness and condolences to the families of the deceased. Saha confirmed he was enroute from Agartala to Kumarghat to evaluate the situation personally. He reassured the public that the state government stands in solidarity with those affected during this challenging time.
