Fluor said that its joint venture COOEC-Fluor Heavy Industries’ fabrication yard in Zhuhai, China, has completed the pipe spool fabrication portion under a contract related to the Al-Zour refinery project in Kuwait awarded by the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC).
COOEC-Fluor is said to have delivered over 95,000 pipe spools by engineering 337,000 linear meters of carbon, alloy, and stainless steel pipe to complete the pipe spool fabrication portion.
According to Fluor, the completed pipe spools were loaded out and reached the project site in Kuwait towards the end of September 2019.
Chris Vertanness – COOEC-Fluor fabrication yard vice president and director of operations said: “The completion of the pipe spool fabrication package is a significant achievement for COOEC-Fluor.
“Not only does this milestone showcase the yard’s extensive pipe and steel fabrication capability in addition to modular assembly, but it also demonstrates our ability to safely deliver large-scale projects at an accelerated pace by shipping more than 15,500 spools per month at peak.”
The fabricated pipe spools were supplied to a Fluor-led joint venture that is presently working to provide a couple of engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction packages for key process support units, utilities and infrastructure needed for the Al-Zour refinery project in Kuwait.
After completion, the new complex is anticipated to become one of the largest refineries in the world with a production of 615,000 barrels of oil per day.
Apart from the recently concluded pipe spool fabrication scope of work, COOEC-Fluor is engineering and assembling 188 modules with final loadout and shipping to the project location planned for this month.
