Chesapeake Utilities completes acquisition natural gas supplier Elkton Gas
Chesapeake Utilities, a US natural gas distribution and transmission company, has wrapped up its previously announced acquisition of Elkton Gas from energy services holding company South Jersey Industries for an undisclosed price.
The deal, which was announced in December 2019, has been completed following the fulfillment of all closing conditions.
Founded in 1863, Elkton Gas supplies natural gas to nearly 7,000 residential and commercial customers within a franchised area of Cecil County in Maryland. The company, which is now a fully-owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities, will continue to operate from its existing office with the same employees.
Presently, Chesapeake Utilities caters to another franchised area of Cecil County with natural gas service and has been managing its expansion into this area mainly from its Delaware operations. Following the addition of the Elkton Gas team and facilities, the entire county can be locally served from the existing office, said Chesapeake Utilities.
Jeff Householder – President and CEO of Chesapeake Utilities said: “We are pleased to welcome the dedicated team of Elkton Gas employees and our new Elkton Gas customers to our Company.
“This move is a natural fit and we are excited about our prospects for natural gas distribution expansion in this growing area.”
