CGG partners with Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Energy for seismic data project
CGG, a global leader in geoscience solutions, has officially announced its collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago. This partnership focuses on reimaging vintage 3D seismic data from blocks 25a, 25b, 26, and 27 located in the country’s deep waters. The project, underpinning firm industry commitments, aims to deliver early products by late February 2024 and includes the generation of well and geological products through CGG‘s leading platform, GeoWells.
The agreement heralds a significant step for both CGG and Trinidad and Tobago, as CGG commits to reimaging over 5500 km2 of 3D seismic data in the complex eastern Columbus Basin. Utilizing its proprietary TL-FWI imaging technology, CGG aims to deliver markedly improved seismic images, enhancing the understanding of geological systems in this underexplored area.
Dechun Lin, EVP, Earth Data at CGG, commented on the agreement: “We are pleased to have reached this multi-client agreement with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. We will use our established leadership in geoscience solutions and cutting-edge imaging technology to support this Caribbean Island nation’s ability to effectively address its energy needs and goals.”
CGG’s Role in Global Energy and Mineral Exploration
Earlier this month, CGG was selected by the French government as a technical partner for the LiMongolia project. This joint initiative, between the National Geological Survey of Mongolia (NGS) and the French geological survey, BRGM, aims to evaluate the regional prospectivity of Mongolia for critical minerals, particularly uranium and lithium. The insights gained will lay the groundwork for future strategic decisions by local and global stakeholders, including mining companies, international funding agencies, and geological surveys.
As part of an initial six-month pilot project beginning in H1, 2024, CGG’s team of mineral exploration geologists will apply their unique integrated source-to-sink evaluation workflows. Their expert interpretation of machine learning-enhanced satellite imagery will produce a mineral systems-driven lithium prospectivity model of a salar-type basin in central Mongolia.
CGG’s involvement in these projects showcases its commitment to advancing geological understanding and energy exploration. The company’s cutting-edge technology and expertise place it at the forefront of seismic data analysis and mineral prospectivity studies. These initiatives not only enhance the energy and mineral resource sectors but also contribute significantly to the economic and strategic development of the involved regions.
The company’s dual engagement in Trinidad and Tobago and Mongolia underlines the growing importance of geoscience solutions in global energy and mineral exploration efforts. As the demand for critical minerals and efficient energy exploration grows, CGG’s expertise and technological capabilities will likely play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these industries.
