CATL unveils TENER energy storage system with zero degradation
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has introduced TENER, the world’s first mass-producible energy storage system boasting zero degradation in power and capacity for the first five years. This groundbreaking technology was unveiled at ees Europe, the continent’s largest exhibition for batteries and energy storage systems. TENER’s advanced features are set to redefine the standards of energy storage efficiency and longevity.
TENER’s remarkable performance is supported by CATL’s cutting-edge bionic Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) and self-assembling electrolyte technologies. These innovations address critical challenges such as lithium metal reactivity and thermal runaway risks, ensuring unparalleled long-term stability and safety in energy storage.
With an energy density of 430Wh/L, TENER integrates CATL’s L-series cells to deliver a robust 6.25 MWh capacity within a compact 20-foot container. This design not only enhances energy density per unit area by 30% but also reduces the overall station footprint by 20%, marking a significant improvement in space efficiency.
CATL has established a comprehensive quality management system encompassing technology development, proof testing, operation monitoring, and safety failure analysis. This system, enhanced by AI-powered risk monitoring and early warning measures, ensures TENER’s reliability and safety across various operational scenarios.
TENER’s introduction has sparked a series of strategic partnerships, notably with Rolls-Royce and Alfen, to bolster the energy infrastructure in the European Union and United Kingdom. Perry Kuiper of Rolls-Royce and Marco Roeleveld of Alfen praised the innovative qualities of TENER, highlighting its potential to enhance performance and sustainability in energy storage.
Leveraging a network of over 700 service stations worldwide, CATL continues to expand its influence, having implemented over 1,000 energy storage projects across more than 40 countries. The company’s leadership is further evidenced by its dominant market share in global energy storage battery shipments, reaching 40% with 69 GWh in 2023.
Beyond technological advancements, CATL is dedicated to supporting community wellbeing and sustainable development. In 2023, CATL’s contributions included significant donations for health and educational initiatives in Europe, alongside environmental efforts like a reforestation project in Thuringia.
CATL’s investments in employee development, vocational training, and environmental stewardship underscore its commitment to fostering a future where technological progress and ecological sustainability are intertwined. As CATL propels the energy storage sector into a new era, its actions resonate with a broader commitment to global carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
